I recommend the following the dos and donts when assessing your career:

Do focus on your strengths.
Do emphasize what unique talents you have.
Do be positive and look at how you have developed in your career.
Do take stock of the contacts you have made throughout your career.
Do examine what you have learned and how you have been able to apply your talents.

Don't focus on your weaknesses.
Don't over emphasize your disappointments.
Don't be negative and compare yourself to others.
Don't think of all of the bad experiences you have had.
Don't dwell on the things that you could have done better.

While it is important to be objective you should try to focus on the positives when assessing your career. A potential employer will not be keen to hear all of the learning you need to do, instead focus on what you have learned in your career and the talents you have developed.

Good luck in your job search!
