Suspect Your Job May Be In Jeopardy's? Launch A Passive Job Search.
By Mary Elizabeth Bradford
In these uncertain times many
executives find themselves faced with downsizing, mergers and
acquisitions and corporate restructuring. Do you believe your job may
be in potential jeopardy? Don't wait until it's too late to focus on
a possible move. Here are three easy tips to keep tabs on the job
market without taking up too much of your time.
Tip 1: Set up automatic e mail agents.
Suring multiple job boards for hours
each day will only serve to fast track you to frustration and
burnout. Set up an e mail alert on a job aggregator so the open jobs
come to you. Make certain your search is focused so you only have to
review those positions that really fit you.
Tip 2: Get your resume updated.
Even if you do it yourself it will take
some time. Update your resume and make certain your best achievements
are clearly listed and quantified if possible. Check your design,
your fonts and your layout against some recent resume designs to make
sure it really looks good. A professional resume writer can create a
resume for you that can often mean the difference between getting in
for an interview or not. Definitely worth checking out. Don't forget
to ask the resume writer how long they have been at it, and what
their certifications are.
Tip 3: Get involved in an association
You may already be a member of an
industry association. Getting involved is one of the smartest things
you can do. Write articles about what you know, join a member
committee or volunteer in some other way. When you position yourself
as an expert the jobs come to you. Opportunities most often begin on
a grass roots level. Putting yourself in the portal of peers where
these opportunities verbally circulate is a very wise move. And no
one has to know you are looking. Interested in changing industries?
Simply Google your industries related associations and local chapters
and get involved ASAP.
Set these steps in motion today and in
a month or two, you will feel more confident, empowered and prepared.
